7.17 Tipping and Restaurant Manners
我常常喜歡小費因爲小小費或者大小費都能給。第一天在臺灣的時候,來我的擼管的時候我付了出租車司機一百塊錢。他很迷茫了。In
hindsight, that was a huge tip consider the ride itself was 兩百塊錢。When
in Taiwan, getting the attention of the store owner or waiter/waitress is
easily and politely done with a “不好意思.” When asking for something,
starting with “可以” seems to never fail. When you want to pay, getting
their attention the first phrase and then following with “買單”
seems to also be acceptable. This is how I usually do things.
In America, a lot of the same customs apply. The only I
noticed is that in America, it’s more common to see waiters/waitresses checking
up on you throughout the duration of your meal to make sure you have everything
you want. So in America, you’ll often wait for a waiter or waitress to come to
you before you ask for more things (like more water for example), unless you’ve
been waiting for a while, then you can politely get their attention much the
same way you would in Taiwan.

Observation of 吳寶春麵包店
- 他們買茶因爲茶跟麵包一起好吃,還有他們想幫當地農民。
- As customers enter the store, the store attendants will say, "歡迎光臨!" and as costumers leave, the store attendants say something akin to, "We hope to see you again."I didn't buy any bread so I don't know if any special words are exchanged during the transaction.
- Free bread/tea samples, introductory/farewell statements when entering/leaving, and staff on-hand to recommend and explain different selections.
- The biggest thing that got me about the establishment was the free tea and bread. The capitalist in me says that they do this because it's the perfect way to get costumers to try their award-winning bread and tea so that they are more likely to buy them. Whether motives are pure or not, it is, regardless, a great marketing-scheme that can be played off. Skepticism aside, I enjoyed the trip!

7.13 作業:吳寶春麵包店
1.
Wu Pau Chun
2.
Knowledge: Through the crafting and care of the bakers, knowledge can
be passed into bread to be acquired by those who consume it. All types breads
are different and may contain abundances of knowledge.
Land: Attention and appreciation for detail of
ingredients and those who produce them.
Hope: Proliferation of Taiwanese bakers and their
skills to a worldwide scale as well as adoption of outside influences on baking
into Taiwanese methods.
3.
Concept behind the logo is to represent the understandings and values
upheld by the establishment and by Wu Pau Chun himself.
4.
Breads, teas, jams, books,
5.
I’m not one to answer a question about buying food (or bread at the
very least) after only seeing it on a website. I prefer to see it in person and
decide based on other queues than a 2D image. A picture is worth a thousand
words, but real life experiences are invaluable.
